Orange Farmer's Markets

I headed to the Orange Farmer’s Markets on Saturday to pick up a few treats for afternoon tea and catch a glimpse of Kate from Masterchef!

My favourite stall has to be the delicious cakes from Raccine, their brownies are divine and their raspberry and frangipane tarts are so pretty, I can never resist.

The markets are a great spot to socialise and pick up some great pantry items, fresh produce or plants and flowers.

The queue for bacon & egg rolls

Dependent on what you want to spend you can splash out on caramelised vinaigrette, bottles of wine, locally produced olive oil or just grab a bacon and egg roll or a coffee.

Unlike some of the Farmer’s Markets, I’m used to visiting in Sydney, these ones only have food or plant stands - no gift cards, jewellery, artwork, stuff for the garden or house which is a bit of a shame as I always found it handy for picking up last minute presents. After all, there is also only so much jam and chutney one person can purchase. I’m hoping this might change down the track especially as there are so many talented artists and crafts people in Orange who don’t have anywhere to sell their wares.

This month Kate Bracks, winner of Masterchef Australia, hosted the chef’s table at the Farmer’s Markets and revealed her favourite guest judge on the show was Heston Blumenthal and also Maggie Beer.

The Details
The Orange Farmer’s Markets take place every second Saturday of the month from 8.30am - midday, out at the Showground during winter or behind the Visitor Information Centre during summer. The summer version of this market seems to draw a bigger crowd and there are far more stalls, also being in town makes it easier for people to get to on foot.
