The Picnic Press

Mr L'Orange and I always like to share our top tips about Orange with guests in our cabin.

We are now at the stage where we print out a 'Hot Tips' sheet for guests to peruse when they arrive. One couple who were quite taken with our hints and tips were Leanne and Mark who stayed a few weeks ago.

Here is their beautiful blog The Picnic Press that talks all about their stay, the photos of Orange are simply gorgeous (I so need a new camera Mr L'Orange!) and I thought you would like to read their story for yourself.

Furnished Cabin - Oooh La La

We have had our first guests stay in the cabin! On one of the coldest and wettest weekends we have had in Orange, Mr L'Orange parents came up to give the cabin a test run.

Despite the nasty weather, the cabin stayed warm and cosy and the electric blankets coupled with flannelette sheets were a big hit.

Our little lounge area
Our wee kitchenette
The space inside is 'smart yet compact' and full of light.
Cabin with gravel surround
The outside look, imagine drinks on the verandah in summer, overlooking the (soon to be) stunning garden.

Yet to go in are the curtains, tv mount, kitchen cabinets and under bed storage but we are definitely almost there.

Backyard Cabin Complete

After what seems like 200 hours of painting, fillering, sanding, wiping and a lot of blood, sweat and tears our little cabin is finished.

Take a look at some of the latest interior and exterior pictures.

Our only remaining element for the bathroom is the shower door and screen, which has now taken 4 weeks to sort out. Amazing how some of the things that you think would be so simple can be so hard. We are primed and ready for the certifier as soon as the glass is installed and then we can have guests to stay.

We are looking forward to getting the furniture in and doing a spot of interior finessing.

Backyard Cabin - Day 17

After many set backs, we finally managed to find a tiler to come and do the bathroom, the first two didn't show up.

The average wait for a tiler in Orange is 2 months so we felt lucky to get anyone to turn up, crazy but true.

We chose grey tiles for the floor and white tiles for the walls plus a fancy strip of mosaic tiles to brighten the room up.

Backyard Cabin - Day 14

Unfortunately I’ve kind of lost track of the days a bit with the cabin, easy to do when the tradesmen  rarely turn up when they promise they will. The ridge capping and barge capping are now on, the hot water system is installed and the inside has been gyprocked and plastered.

All the days have now blended into one long paintathon, Mr L’Orange has done all the ceilings and roller work whilst I have been cutting in and painting the outside. Whilst it was great to have the Weathtex cladding pre-primed, grey probably wasn’t the best colour as it takes at least three coats of paint to cover it properly. The cabin is slowly transforming into something you can imagine living in, unlikely to be finished before March however L
